Lena’s Pro Tip?
While strong academics are essential, the most successful applicants demonstrate intellectual curiosity, leadership, and a compelling personal story that aligns with their goals. Admissions committees look for students who align with the university’s values and academic culture, meaning applicants must convey why they are a great match. Authenticity matters! The most memorable applicants aren’t just well-rounded—they have a clear sense of purpose and a unique perspective on their experiences. Additionally, demonstrated impact is key—successful candidates don’t just participate in activities—they show initiative, leadership, and tangible contributions.
Les has earned a Bachelor’s degree from Stanford University, where he also served as an Admissions Associate. His greatest learning from this experience is the importance of viewing the college application process as a simple pie chart with three key slices: academic life, involvement in or with a community, and personal story. Each of these slices is viewed equally for the top 20 schools, meaning one’s personal statement holds the same weight as their high school transcript in the decision-making process.
Les understands that the admissions cycle is a jarring experience. In fact, his challenging journey to college is what sparked his interest in coaching students. Even though he attended a high school recognized as a college preparatory school, Les found it troubling how minimal access he had as a high school student to college counselors, SAT and ACT prep, and information about private institutions outside of the state.
Moreover, during his college application cycle, his college counselor highly suggested he keep his college search within a more “reasonable” scope. He spent countless weeks and hours crafting his applications and was accepted into 14 of the 18 universities he applied to. Les was the first in his high school to attend Stanford. He is passionate about guiding students and parents through this process to ensure their success!
Les’s greatest strengths as a coach include helping candidates develop and execute a project plan and timeline, identify a list of schools tiered for maximum success and admission reassurance, and highlight their strengths and voice in their essays. Additionally, Les is highly skilled in interview preparation, helping students curate a stellar resume, and tailoring essays to fit the expectations for each desirable school choice.
In his spare time, Les loves going on runs along the San Francisco harbor and Golden Gate Park. He also enjoys listening to NPR politics and the Wall Street Journal report in the morning. His interests include cooking new recipes, reading, talking to friends and family, and developing himself professionally!
Les’s Pro Tip?
Admissions officers want a well-rounded candidate they can argue for before a committee of their peers! Bring your voice. Bring your story. Bring your insight. Your essays hold the key to your potential spot at the school of your dreams.

Luisa holds a Bachelor of Science from MIT, where she served on the admissions team. This experience gave her profound insights into the college application process. She learned that authenticity and humility hold immense value as Ivy League schools seek to identify prospective students' true character and aspirations. Technical proficiency is important, but ambitious drive and a commitment to a cause are critical factors that help candidates stand out. Professionally, Luisa is an experienced Product Designer. She helps shape accessible and inclusive strategies through bilingual UX research in industry and leading community projects.
As a coach, Luisa understands that choosing a college or major based on a fixed life path can be limiting. Recognizing the tremendous potential and drive young applicants possess, she is committed to leading with empathy and connecting with students on their level to empower them to embrace their potential.
Coaching college applicants is a passion for Luisa, rooted in her personal experience with the college application process. When Luisa’s parents immigrated from Peru, she vividly remembers the pressure she felt from wanting to prove that her parents’ sacrifices were worthwhile. At the same time, she felt confused about her own aspirations as an artist and scientist. While she received coaching from an external success program, it focused solely on project planning. She believes she would have benefitted from having a coach by her side willing to reflect her own positive traits and anxieties about the future in a gentler light. Luisa aims to change this reality by coaching college applicants and guiding young students through this transformative process.
Luisa’s greatest strengths as a coach are her exceptional listening skills and ability to reflect and guide students toward a deeper understanding of their goals. By facilitating introspection, she helps students present a clearer idea of their aspirations in their application essays. She also excels at connecting with students at their level and positively reflecting their potential. Furthermore, Luisa is bilingual in Spanish and English and is delighted to provide coaching services in both languages.

Margaret has a Bachelor’s degree in International Public Health and Sociology from New York University. She also has a Master's degree in Sociology from UC Berkeley, where she is currently pursuing her PhD. Moreover, Margaret acknowledges that traditional narratives of definitive goals or passions often dominate the college or career terrain.
When Margaret isn't coaching, she is experimenting with sourdough, knitting, and playing cards with her family.
